Donor Services

We offer tailored services to philanthropists contemplating major gifts to U.S. colleges and universities.

All too often, donors approach universities with a specific idea in mind, only to have the university redirect their gift to another purpose. Sometimes this happens in the course of negotiations; at other times, the university stretches or even violates the intent of the gift after it has been given. CEHE will provide whatever assistance is useful to a potential donor. This might be as simple as reviewing a grant agreement prior to signature. Or it might involve months of work, elaborating a donors ideas, identifying appropriate faculty at one or more colleges or universities, drafting and editing program proposals, negotiating the details of the project with university officials, and even providing due diligence after a gift has been made.

CEHE currently is involved in projects at half a dozen universities potentially involving tens of millions of dollars of higher education giving all at no cost to the donors. CEHE pays for these services through general support. Longer term, it is hoped that the philanthropists who benefit from such services will allow CEHE to apply for grants to defray the costs, but CEHE does not want the payment of consulting fees to jeopardize our opportunity to help donors increase the effectiveness of their gifts. For this reason, CEHE is also raising money for this program directly through grant applications to foundations and individuals.
